ZOHM 7-Hydroxy Alkaloids

Frequently Asked Questions

Fifty questions we are asked most often about 7-OH tablets, ZOHM products, legal status, dosing, testing and ordering. Everything here is written to be accurate rather than flattering. Regulatory status changes quickly, so check the date on any legal answer and confirm against current law in your own state before ordering.

WHAT 7-OH ACTUALLY IS

1. What is 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH)?

7-hydroxymitragynine, almost always abbreviated 7-OH, is an indole alkaloid found in trace amounts in the leaf of Mitragyna speciosa, the kratom tree. In raw leaf it typically makes up a small fraction of the total alkaloid profile. ZOHM tablets deliver a measured, standardized quantity of it in a chewable format, so what is on the label is what is in the pack. Our science explainer covers the chemistry in plain English.

2. How is 7-OH different from regular kratom powder?

Powder is whole ground leaf, so it carries every alkaloid the plant contains plus a large amount of plant fibre. 7-OH tablets isolate one alkaloid at a known milligram dose. That is the practical difference buyers care about: no measuring spoons, no bitter grit, no guessing how strong the batch is. See our breakdown of why raw leaf causes nausea while isolates do not.

3. Why is 7-OH considered more potent than mitragynine?

Mitragynine is the most abundant alkaloid in kratom leaf; 7-OH is far less abundant but binds the mu-opioid receptor with considerably higher affinity in laboratory assays. Potency in a receptor assay is not the same thing as a guaranteed subjective experience, and no controlled human trials establish equivalence. We wrote up the receptor affinity research so you can judge the evidence yourself.

4. Is 7-OH synthetic or plant-derived?

It depends entirely on the manufacturer, and this matters. 7-OH can be concentrated from plant material, or it can be produced semi-synthetically in a laboratory. Federal regulators treat those two routes differently. Every ZOHM batch ships with a certificate of analysis identifying what was tested and what was found, which you can request from our lab tests page before you buy.

5. What is mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, and should I care?

It is a chemically rearranged derivative of 7-OH that does not occur naturally in the leaf. In late August 2026 the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration placed it, along with MGM-15 and MGM-16, into Schedule I on a temporary basis. None of those three compounds are ingredients in ZOHM products. If you buy 7-OH anywhere, ask the vendor in writing what alkaloids the product contains.

6. Is kratom the same thing as 7-OH?

No. Kratom is the plant and everything made from its leaf. 7-OH is one specific compound within it. Every 7-OH tablet is derived from or modelled on a kratom alkaloid, but the word “kratom” on a label tells you nothing about milligram strength or which alkaloid dominates. That is exactly why reading a certificate of analysis is the single most useful skill in this category.

7. What does "standardized" mean on a 7-OH label?

Standardized means the manufacturer has verified a stated amount of the named alkaloid per unit, rather than reporting a percentage of total alkaloids. A “60 mg per tablet” claim is a standardization claim. It should be backed by high-performance liquid chromatography testing. We explain how HPLC testing protects buyers and what a weak report looks like.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT ZOHM PRODUCT

8. Which ZOHM tablet strength should a first-time buyer start with?

The lowest available. Our 22 mg Tangerine Dream tablets are the entry point in the range and the sensible place to start, because you cannot judge your own response until you have tried a small, known dose once and waited. Starting at 60 mg or 120 mg removes your ability to tell what is happening. Our guide to the mistakes first-time buyers make covers this in more depth.

9. What is the difference between ZOHM 40 mg and 60 mg tablets?

Both are chewable and both come in flavoured and unflavoured options; the difference is the quantity of 7-OH per tablet. The 40 mg line runs Natural, Strawburst and Cherry Limeade. The 60 mg line is the 360 series in Baja Blast and Rocket Pop. Our 40 mg versus 60 mg comparison walks through which suits which kind of use.

10. What are ZOHM Blacked Out 120 mg tablets for?

Blacked Out Strawberry Crush 120 mg is the highest strength in the range and is intended for adults with established familiarity, not for newcomers. The tablets are quad-scored, which means they can be divided into quarters to give a 30 mg portion. That scoring is the reason many experienced buyers prefer them. We explain why quad-scored tablets save money.

11. Do ZOHM tablets come unflavoured?

Yes. ZOHM Extra Strength Natural 40 mg is the unflavoured option for buyers who want no sweetener or artificial flavour in a chewable. If you prefer flavour, the range runs Tangerine Dream, Strawburst, Cherry Limeade, Baja Blast, Rocket Pop and Strawberry Crush.

12. Which ZOHM flavour is the most popular?

Across the range the fruit-forward flavours sell most consistently, and our Baja Blast versus Rocket Pop versus Strawburst comparison sets out how they differ. Flavour is a real consideration in chewables because you are holding the tablet in your mouth, not swallowing it whole. Taste preference is personal, so start with a single pack rather than a case.

13. Are ZOHM chewable tablets or capsules?

Chewable tablets. You chew them and hold them briefly rather than swallowing whole, which is why the formulation matters. Our article on chewable versus swallowed capsules explains the absorption difference between putting a compound across the oral mucosa and sending it down through the stomach.

14. Should I buy 7-OH tablets or liquid shots?

Tablets are portioned, travel well and have a long shelf life. Shots are single-serve liquids that act quickly and are harder to divide. On a cost-per-milligram basis tablets usually win, which is what our chewables versus liquid shots value comparison works through. If discretion matters to you, blister packs beat glass bottles.

15. How many tablets are in a ZOHM pack?

Pack counts vary by product and are listed on each product page, so check the listing rather than assuming. Every ZOHM listing states the milligram strength per tablet, the pack count, and the total milligrams, so you can compare value directly. Our milligram-per-dollar value breakdown shows how to do the comparison fairly across vendors.

DOSING AND USE

16. How do I dose 7-OH tablets safely?

Start low, use one portion at a time, and wait before considering more. Never take a second portion because the first has not done anything yet. Our complete dosing guide covers the range from micro doses upward, and our separate piece on signs you are taking too much tells you what to watch for. If you are unsure, talk to a licensed clinician first.

17. How fast do chewable 7-OH tablets work?

Chewables are formulated to break down quickly in the mouth, and our article on chewable formulation chemistry describes how the tablets dissolve. Absorption across the oral mucosa generally begins sooner than swallowing a capsule, but onset varies with body weight, food in the stomach and individual metabolism. There is no honest single number that applies to everyone.

18. Should I take 7-OH on an empty stomach or with food?

Both have trade-offs, and the answer depends on what you are trying to avoid. An empty stomach generally means faster onset and a higher chance of stomach upset; food slows and blunts both. We break down the empty-stomach versus after-meal research. Because 7-OH is lipophilic, our guide on taking it with healthy fats is worth reading alongside it.

19. Can I split ZOHM tablets to microdose?

Yes, where the tablet is scored. The 120 mg Blacked Out tablets are quad-scored and divide cleanly into 30 mg quarters. Our step-by-step on splitting scored tablets for exact microdosing covers technique and storage of the remainder. Splitting an unscored tablet produces uneven halves and defeats the purpose of a standardized dose.

20. How long does 7-OH last?

Duration varies by individual and by dose, and published pharmacokinetic data on concentrated 7-OH products is thin because controlled human trials have not been run. Our article on half-life and elimination kinetics summarises what is actually known rather than repeating vendor folklore. Keep a simple log of dose and time for your first several uses.

21. Will I build tolerance to 7-OH?

Repeated use of a mu-opioid receptor agonist is generally associated with tolerance, and 7-OH is such a compound. The practical response is to use scheduled breaks rather than escalating. Our tolerance reset protocol and our three-day receptor sensitivity reset both set out structured approaches. Dependence is a real risk with regular use.

22. Is it safe to use 7-OH every day?

That is a question for a licensed healthcare professional who knows your medical history, not for a retailer. What we can tell you is that daily use of any mu-opioid agonist is associated with tolerance and physical dependence, and that combining it with alcohol, benzodiazepines or other central nervous system depressants is dangerous. Our health disclaimer states this in full.

23. Can I combine 7-OH tablets with plain kratom tea?

Some experienced users stack a low-dose isolate alongside plain leaf, reasoning that the leaf contributes a broader alkaloid profile. If you do this, keep total dose low and change only one variable at a time. Our stacking guide explains the reasoning and the risks, and our piece on the entourage effect explains why full-spectrum leaf behaves differently from an isolate.

24. Should I stay hydrated when using botanicals?

Yes. Hydration is ordinary good practice with any supplement, and dehydration worsens most of the unpleasant effects people report. Our guide to hydration and electrolytes covers what that looks like practically. It is unglamorous advice and it is the advice that actually helps.

25. Is 7-OH appropriate for older adults?

Older adults metabolise compounds differently, are more likely to take other medications, and are more sensitive to sedating substances. We wrote a dedicated dosing guide for older adults, but the honest answer is that anyone over 65 or taking prescription medication should speak with a doctor or pharmacist before use.

LEGAL STATUS AND REGULATION

26. Is 7-OH legal in the United States right now?

At the federal level, concentrated 7-OH is not yet a scheduled controlled substance. That is a moving target and you should read the next answer before relying on it. State law is separate and in several states 7-OH is already unlawful regardless of federal status. Our 50-state legality map is maintained for exactly this reason.

27. What did the DEA do about 7-OH in 2026?

On 1 July 2026 the DEA filed notices of intent to temporarily place 7-hydroxymitragynine above a specified threshold into Schedule I. The notice published in the Federal Register on 6 July 2026 under Docket DEA-1570. The threshold is more than 0.05 percent by weight, or more than 1.00 milligram of 7-OH per article. A temporary order could not issue before 5 August 2026, and it takes effect the day it publishes, with no grace period. Check the Federal Register for the current position before you order.

28. Would ZOHM products be covered by that threshold?

Be direct about this: yes. Every ZOHM tablet in our range carries between 22 mg and 120 mg of 7-OH per tablet, which is far above the 1.00 mg per-article figure in the DEA notice. If that temporary order publishes, these products would fall within its scope. We are not going to bury that in fine print, and we will update this page if the status changes.

29. Which states have banned kratom and 7-OH outright?

As of late 2026 the full-ban states are Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Vermont and Wisconsin. Massachusetts issued an emergency statewide restriction in August 2026. Rhode Island reversed its own ban in April 2026, which shows these lists do change. Always confirm against current state law rather than a cached article.

30. Which states restrict concentrated 7-OH but allow kratom leaf?

Florida has treated concentrated 7-OH as Schedule I since August 2025. Ohio banned synthetic and isolated 7-OH in May 2026, and Virginia banned concentrated 7-OH from 1 July 2026 while keeping leaf legal for adults. Colorado and South Carolina also restrict concentrates specifically. This is the fastest-moving area of the whole topic, so verify locally before ordering.

31. What is the Kratom Consumer Protection Act?

The KCPA is a model state law adopted in more than thirty states. It typically requires age verification at 21 or older, third-party laboratory testing, accurate alkaloid labelling, and bans on synthetic alkaloids. It is the strongest consumer protection currently available in this category. Our KCPA buyer’s guide explains what each requirement means in practice.

32. Why do some states ban raw leaf but permit standardized alkaloids?

Because standardized products can be tested, labelled and dose-controlled in a way that bulk leaf cannot. Several regulators have reasoned that a tablet with a verified milligram figure is more auditable than an unlabelled bag of powder. Our article on why states ban raw leaf while allowing standardized alkaloids sets out that argument and its limits.

33. Is kratom legal in Canada?

Kratom is not listed under Canada’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, so possession is not itself a criminal offence. However, Health Canada has not authorised kratom for human consumption, and selling or advertising it for that purpose conflicts with the Food and Drugs Act and the Natural Health Products Regulations. Canadian shipments are also subject to inspection and seizure by the Canada Border Services Agency. Our Canada laws guide explains this properly.

34. Can I travel with 7-OH tablets?

Only after you have checked the laws of both your origin and your destination, and of every state you will pass through. Carrying a product across a state line into a state where it is prohibited is your risk, not the vendor’s. Our guide to travelling with 7-OH and airport security covers what to expect, and our piece on international shipping and customs covers crossing borders.

35. Why does ZOHM require age verification?

Because these are adult-only products and because KCPA states require it. Age verification is not an obstacle we invented to annoy you; in regulated states it is a legal condition of sale, and refusing to verify would put the vendor in breach. Our explainer on why brands require 21-plus proof covers what the check involves.

36. Will 7-OH show up on a drug test?

Standard five-panel workplace screens do not look for kratom alkaloids. Expanded panels and targeted assays can. Employers, probation officers and athletic bodies increasingly order the expanded tests, and a negative expectation on a five-panel screen is not a safe assumption to build a job around. Our article on drug testing realities goes into detail.

QUALITY, TESTING AND SAFETY

37. Are ZOHM tablets lab tested?

Yes, and you should never buy 7-OH from a vendor that cannot show you the report. Certificates of analysis are available on our lab tests page. When you review one, check that the sample identifier matches your batch, that the test method is named, and that contaminants are reported as well as alkaloids.

38. What should I look for on a certificate of analysis?

Four things: a named accredited laboratory, an HPLC method, a contaminant panel covering heavy metals and microbials, and a batch identifier you can match to your pack. A certificate with no method named is close to worthless. Our guide to how to read a 7-OH certificate of analysis walks through a real report line by line.

39. What is GMP and does it matter here?

Good Manufacturing Practice is the set of standards covering facility cleanliness, batch records, ingredient traceability and quality control. In an unregulated category it is one of the few meaningful signals available. Our explainer on GMP standards and what certifications mean for buyers separates real certification from marketing language.

40. How do I know a 7-OH brand is not mislabelling its strength?

You do not, from the label alone. You know it from third-party testing, from consistency between batches, and from a vendor who publishes reports without being asked. Our transparency checklist on what to verify before buying 7-OH is the process we would apply to any vendor, including ourselves.

41. Is it better to buy from a smoke shop or direct from a brand?

Direct buying gives you batch traceability, a stated manufacturer, and someone to contact if something is wrong. Smoke shop buying is immediate but usually anonymous, and stock rotates fast enough that the product you liked may be gone next week. Our comparison of smoke shop brands versus buying direct sets out both sides fairly.

42. What are the main safety warnings for 7-OH products?

Do not use if pregnant or nursing. Do not combine with alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids or any other central nervous system depressant. Do not drive or operate machinery. Keep away from children and pets. Do not use a product with a broken seal. Our full health disclaimer is part of every purchase and you should read it before ordering, not after.

43. Can 7-OH be habit forming?

Yes. 7-OH acts on the mu-opioid receptor, and repeated use of mu-opioid agonists is associated with tolerance, physical dependence and withdrawal on stopping. This is not a scare tactic and it is not a reason to avoid the category, but it is the reason to use deliberately rather than casually. If your use has stopped being deliberate, talk to a clinician.

44. How should I store ZOHM tablets?

Cool, dry, dark, and out of reach of children. Heat and humidity degrade chewables faster than they degrade sealed capsules, and a chewable left in a hot car will not be the product you bought. Our guide to storing chewable tablets covers the details, including why blister packs hold up better than loose tablets.

ORDERING, SHIPPING AND PAYMENT

45. How do I place an order?

Choose your product from the shop, add it to your cart, complete age verification, and check out. You will get a confirmation email with tracking once the order dispatches. If you have never bought 7-OH online before, our online buyer’s guide walks through what a reputable checkout should look like.

46. Can I pay by credit card?

Yes, and paying by card is the safer option because it gives you dispute rights if an order never arrives. Our article on buying 7-OH with a credit card explains what to look for at checkout, including secure connection indicators and a clearly published refund policy. We publish ours at the refund policy page.

47. How fast do orders ship?

Orders placed before the daily cut-off generally leave the same business day, subject to age verification clearing. Our same-day shipping and discreet delivery guide explains the cut-off, the carriers we use, and what tracking looks like. Full terms are in our shipping policy.

48. Is packaging discreet?

Yes. Shipments go out in plain outer packaging with no product name or brand on the exterior label. Nothing on the box identifies the contents to a neighbour, a courier or anyone else. Details are in our shipping policy.

49. Which states do you ship to?

We ship only where sale of the product is lawful, and we cannot ship to states that prohibit kratom or concentrated 7-OH. Those states are Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Vermont and Wisconsin, plus Massachusetts under its emergency restriction. Our 50-state map is the current reference, and our shipping policy governs.

50. Do you ship to Canada or internationally?

We do not ship these products to Canada for consumption. Health Canada has not authorised kratom or 7-OH for human consumption, and shipments are subject to border inspection and seizure. Our article on Canadian laws explains the position, and our guide to international shipping and customs explains why cross-border botanical orders so often fail.

51. Do you offer free shipping?

Shipping thresholds and current promotions are stated at checkout and in our shipping policy, so check there for the live figure rather than relying on a cached page. Signing up to the VIP list is the most reliable way to hear about shipping offers before they are public.

52. Is my payment information secure?

Checkout runs over an encrypted connection and card details are handled by our payment processor rather than stored on our servers. Our privacy policy sets out exactly what we collect and how it is used. If a checkout page ever loads without a secure connection indicator, close the tab and contact us.

RETURNS, ACCOUNTS AND WHOLESALE

53. What is your return policy?

Because these are consumable, ingestible products, we cannot accept returns on opened packs for hygiene and safety reasons. Unopened orders and any genuine fulfilment error are handled under our published refund and returns policy. Read it before you order so there are no surprises.

54. What if my order arrives damaged or incomplete?

Contact us through the contact page with your order number and a photo of what arrived. Damage in transit and short shipments are our responsibility and we resolve them. Photographs make this much faster for everyone.

55. Do I need an account to order?

No. Guest checkout is available. An account is still useful because it stores your order history, speeds up repeat orders, and keeps tracking links in one place. You can create or manage one from your account page.

56. Do you offer wholesale or bulk pricing?

Yes. We work with licensed retailers, smoke shops and vape retailers. Wholesale enquiries go through our wholesale page, which sets out what we need from you, including resale documentation and the jurisdictions you operate in. We will not supply a business that cannot confirm it is lawful for it to stock these products.

57. How do I get notified about new flavours and restocks?

Join the VIP list. That is where new flavour releases, restock notices and subscriber-only offers go first. It is the fastest route to a product that sells out, and it is also where we would post any regulatory change affecting the range.

Still have a question?

Email us through the contact page and a real person answers. For retailer enquiries use the wholesale page instead. Before any purchase, read the health disclaimer and the store policy. These products are sold only to adults of legal age in jurisdictions where sale is lawful.

Important: This page is general information, not medical or legal advice. 7-OH products are not evaluated or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Concentrated 7-hydroxymitragynine is the subject of a pending DEA temporary scheduling action (Docket DEA-1570, Federal Register, 6 July 2026) that may take effect without advance notice.
